Blackjack is one of the most popular casino card games around, requiring skill and luck. It is not one of the most complicated games to learn and is therefore well suited to new players.

The idea of casino blackjack is for the cards you are dealt to total 21 but not over, otherwise you will be declared bust. If you get close to 21 then you can choose to stand on any number whenever you choose. If you win the hand then your bet is returned and you win whatever the odds are.

In casino blackjack the face cards i.e. queen, king, jack are worth 10, the number cards worth their started value and aces worth 1 or 11. If you are dealt an Ace and a face card in your first 2 cards then this will count as blackjack and you will win.

Should you tie with the house then this is known as a push and you will receive your initial bet back.

During the game you will have a number of different options available to you and it is worth getting to know and understand these before you bet large amounts of money.

Casino Blackjack options

Within casino blackjack there are many options. Hit gives you the choice to receive another card if your current total is twenty or under.

Stand allows you to keep your card value as it is when it is twenty or under. In this case you will receive no more cards and the value of the next card will be given to the dealer’s total.

Doubling works if you have two cards totalling 9, 10, or 11 with no aces. By choosing this option your initial bet is doubled and you will be dealt one more card.

You will be given the option to split if your first two cards are either a pair or of the same status. By doing this you double your initial stake and it splits your hand into two new hands. A second card is then dealt to each of your new hands.

Insurance allows you to protect some of the stake when you hit blackjack and the dealer also holds an ace. In this case you will place a bet of half your initial stake that the dealers next card will be valued as 10. If however the next card is not a value of 10 you will lose your bet.
